"Yes! Everyone has some addiction
I think. It seems I just transfer my addictions. I try to make the replacement more healthy, though. For example, when
I stopped cigarettes, I got seriously addicted to working out. Now that I've given up beer, I'm unfortunately eating
more sweets. Moderation is what I keep telling myself.” —Shannon B.
"I think love and self-awareness either prevent and/or release us from addictions
since most addictions are a result of self-esteem issues or environmental programming.” —Jim B.
"I think I am addicted to being busy. If I stay REAL
busy, I don't have time to think about the things in my life that need work. I would call it a coping mechanism but when
I try to slow down, I can't. That is why, for me, busyness is an addiction. I can't not be busy." —Kathy
L.
From the responses, it appears most people
are struggling with one form of addiction or another. Although some aren’t life threatening, the feelings of powerlessness
over addiction can still be overwhelming. I believe in the power of sharing our stories; and the benefits we receive from
hearing them. The powerfully inspiring articles this month address these issues and offer help and hope for overcoming addiction.
