The Secret Language of the Universe

We have all heard the stories–loved ones appearing in the middle of the night speaking loudly to us, strangely flickering lights, a book falling from the shelf open to a passage that has great meaning. It is very easy to dismiss these signs as random coincidences. After all, deceased people can’t communicate with us any longer, right?
Laura Lynne Jackson is a psychic medium who helps people connect to their loved ones on the Other Side. She begins by saying, “You don’t need a psychic medium to connect to the Other Side…You don’t need me to tap into this incredible power. You don’t need a psychic medium to recognize and access the signs that I think of as the secret language of the universe–a form of communication that is all around us every day, available to us all.”
A mother of three, Jackson was first a high school English teacher. Initially skeptical and a bit fearful of her abilities, she gradually came to accept them and had them verified in order to become a medium for the Forever Family Foundation, an organization aimed at helping those in grief, particularly those who have lost children. The screening process involved extensive testing, an eight-step, quintuple-blind screening administered by scientists at the Windbridge Research Center in Arizona. Jackson is one of a handful of Certified Research Mediums around the country and has worked with scientists ever since, exploring how consciousness survives bodily death.
As Jackson says:
“It’s about connecting you to a very simple but powerful idea–that the universe is always sending you signs and messages in order to communicate with you and steer you to a higher life path. It’s about how many miraculous and beautiful truths go unseen in our lives, and how, with a subtle yet meaningful shift in our perception, we can begin to see them.”
Signs from the universe come in many forms to grab our attention–objects such as coins, feathers, animals, birds, butterflies, number sequences, and mysterious cell phone messages can appear to make us notice what otherwise we might dismiss as a random event. These are known as default signs, which also include synchronicities. Synchronicity shows our connection to each other and to the world around us and can happen without us asking for or expecting it. At one point in my own life, I asked for some direction from Spirit about a situation I was experiencing. On the way to my office, a pink truck (pink vehicles have always been a sign for me–a sign I asked for long ago) passed me with the words, “We’re with you!” on the back of the vehicle. It was just the message I needed at that moment!
Signs that we specifically request, like my pink vehicles, are a bit different than default signs. It is a powerful way for us to create our own language with the Other Side. Remember, spirit will use many methods to grab our attention. I might not see a pink car on the street in front of my house but they sometimes appear as a child’s toy in a store window, an image on a paper napkin, or in a television advertisement. Be open and flexible to the many ways you and Spirit will create your own “secret” language.
Signs from the Other Side are not mandates–after all, we do have the freedom to choose how to live our lives. “While they can act as guideposts or nudges of love and support from our Teams of Light, we each have the free will to choose our own paths, lessons, and experiences. Ultimately, our free will empowers us. We are the ones who decide what we do, not some external force. The choice will always be ours.”
“What the Other Side does try to do is make us realize that, deep down inside, we often already know what we need to do to find our highest path–we just need to trust it….That’s what signs do–they affirm that we are never alone on this earth, that we are always surrounded by our own personal cheerleading squads, and that our teams of Light are tirelessly rooting–and patiently waiting–for us to do the things we need to do to live the best, most authentic, most purpose-driven lies we possibly can.”
Perhaps you’re reading along and wondering why you aren’t seeing any signs for yourself, much as I did before my pink car adventures began. I was intrigued by the beautiful messages others received but rarely noticed those messages for myself. I always joked that the universe would have to place one of those giant flashing signs in my front yard for me to notice the message coming my way!
There are some tools to help:
1. Get quiet.
As Jackson says, “Sometimes a sign can just be a tiny whisper in our heart, an inner pull, a soft voice, or a gut feeling. All we need to do is learn how to trust it, to remain open to it, to listen for it, and to honor it when we feel it or hear it.”
It’s hard to notice those signs when you are busy, distracted, or going through a difficult time. Start by taking just a few minutes to be quiet, breathe, and then see what comes. Short periods of meditation (a couple of minutes) are best at first.
2. Pay attention to the subtle.
Information from the non-physical world will always seem surreal, like a dream, or like watching a movie play out in front of you. Because the messages are coming from the non-physical realm, they are lighter, more whispery, ethereal…and easy to dismiss. The true messages from Spirit are those that pop in quickly and always give the same information. Messages from your deceased loved one will not be the same as having a conversation with those who are physically present–it will be much more subtle, but it is absolutely real.
3. Be open to any way the message might come to you.
Remember that the universe will always try to communicate with you. Everything in our world has meaning. A sign does not always have to be seen with our eyes open–it might come to you as an image in your mind’s eye, a picture on a billboard, the smell of your grandmother’s perfume, or just a deep inner knowing. Be open to the many ways you may be receiving your own messages from spirit…and trust the message you receive.
Once I began to do these things, I found that there were many signs in my awareness that I would have dismissed in the past. As Jackson says so beautifully:
“The signs are there. The messages are there. The butterflies and dragonflies and hummingbirds and playing cards and rainbows and soda bread and trees with hearts are all there, waiting for us to see them. Our loved ones on the Other Side are hard at work trying to steer us to happiness, and our Teams of Light are plotting ways to move us onto our highest paths. These things are happening around us every day, and it is up to us to be open to them–to be mindful of them.
Because when we are mindful, we will see things we haven’t been able to see before. And once we see them, we will never be able to unsee them–nor would we ever want to.”
I highly recommend this book, whether you are missing a loved one or merely trying to deepen your relationship with the Other Side. I am still thrilled to see a pink car in my world! I hope you will find meaning, comfort, and beauty in the unique and wonderful signs that are present for you as you connect with your very own Team of Light.
